Kitchen cuts hit heat, steam and dishwashers, which is a harder life than a wall decal. Worth knowing which surface you are aiming at before you pick a design, because it changes what will still be there in a year.
Working with kitchen & baking designs
- Dishwashers beat most vinyl
- Adhesive vinyl on mugs and tumblers is hand-wash only in practice, whatever the packaging claims. For anything going through a dishwasher, etching or a sublimation blank will outlast a decal.
- Curved surfaces want narrow designs
- A wide design wrinkles when it wraps a mug or jar. Tall and narrow follows a curve far better than short and wide, so favour stacked lettering over a long single line.
- Keep it off the lip
- Nothing on a drinking vessel should come within about half an inch of the rim, both for the look and because that edge takes the most wear.
