Animal designs live or die on the silhouette. The files here are built so the shape still reads as the animal when it is small, dark, and stuck to a tumbler, which is where most of them end up.
Working with animals designs
- Fur and feathers are the risk
- Detailed coat texture is what shreds on a mat. Where a design suggests fur with a few deliberate notches rather than fifty fine spikes, it will cut cleanly at a much smaller size.
- Leave the legs some width
- Thin legs on birds, deer and insects are the first thing to tear during weeding. If you are sizing under about four inches, favour a design where the animal is sitting, curled, or shown head only.
- Layering eyes
- A single-layer animal usually leaves the eye as a hole, which reads fine on light backgrounds and disappears on dark ones. For dark vinyl, look for a design with the eye as a separate layer.
