Gear-related designs mostly end up outdoors, on a bottle, a tackle box, a truck window or a cooler. That is a UV and weather problem more than a cutting problem, and the material matters more than usual.
Working with hobbies & outdoors designs
- Outdoor vinyl is a different product
- Standard craft vinyl fades and lifts within a season outside. Permanent outdoor vinyl is rated in years rather than months and is what car and cooler decals need.
- Car glass wants reverse weeding
- Decals seen from outside but applied from inside need mirroring. Decide which side of the glass it lives on before cutting, because it is not fixable afterwards.
- Rough surfaces need pressure, not more glue
- On powder-coated or textured gear, press firmly through the transfer tape with a scraper and leave it a day before peeling. Most lifting is under-pressed rather than under-sticky.
